The dealer’s worksheet is not your worksheet

A rebate can disappear inside the math.

A dealer discount, government incentive, trade allowance, add-on, and down payment are not interchangeable. This kit gives each one its own line so you can see the real deal—not just the monthly payment.

Five safeguards in one system

Check the deal from first quote to final signature.

01

Dealer quote

Compare advertised price, selling price, taxes, fees, and out-the-door totals side by side.

02

EV incentives

Track each program separately and record whether it appears as a rebate, discount, or later payment.

03

Add-ons and fees

Flag service contracts, protection packages, accessories, and charges that can erase your savings.

04

Financing

Separate purchase price from loan terms so a lower payment does not hide a more expensive deal.

05

Used Tesla claims

Document Autopilot, FSD, warranty, charging, title, and feature promises before money changes hands.

The complete bundle

Everything you need to audit the deal.

Use the workbook while you shop, the scripts when you call, and the checklist at the finance desk. The materials work together, but each file is useful on its own.

Program status · reviewed July 14, 2026

MyFirstEV is announced—not fully implemented.

California announced point-of-sale rebates of up to $3,500 for a qualifying new EV under $50,000 MSRP and $1,750 for a qualifying used EV sold for up to $25,000, with launch expected later in summer 2026.

Final eligibility, participating-dealer, application, tax, and stacking details may change. This kit helps you verify the current deal; it does not promise a rebate.

EV Buyer Check reviews program statements against official California sources and dates material changes when they are published.

Why I built it

I learned how messy a used Tesla deal can get.

After buying a used Tesla, I saw how dealer promises, title and registration details, incentives, and vehicle features can become confusing fast. I built this kit with an accountant’s eye: separate every number, document every promise, and never rely on a verbal summary when the contract says something else.

Frequently asked questions

Before you download.

What is the California EV Buyer Protection Kit?

It is a downloadable buyer toolkit for checking EV dealer quotes, separating public incentives from dealer discounts, spotting add-ons, documenting promises, and comparing the numbers before you sign.

Does the kit tell me whether I qualify for MyFirstEV?

It helps you organize the questions, documents, vehicle price, and dealer answers that affect eligibility. It does not guarantee eligibility. California is still finalizing implementation details, so buyers should confirm current rules with CARB and the participating dealer.

Can I use it for a used Tesla?

Yes. The bundle includes a used Tesla and EV feature checklist covering written feature promises, battery and warranty questions, title and registration details, charging equipment, and software features.

Will it calculate my out-the-door price?

Yes. The workbook is designed to compare selling price, taxes, fees, add-ons, incentives, financing, and the final out-the-door total across dealer quotes.

Is this legal, tax, or financial advice?

No. This is an educational recordkeeping and comparison tool. It helps you ask better questions and document the deal; it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional or an official program administrator.

What files do I receive?

You receive an Excel workbook, a detailed field guide, a printable before-you-sign checklist, dealer scripts, a quick-start file, and supporting reference materials in one download.

Do I need Excel?

The workbook is supplied as an XLSX file and can be opened in Microsoft Excel or imported into Google Sheets. The guides and checklists are PDFs.

How much does the kit cost?

The current launch price is $19 for the complete bundle. Pricing may change as the product is updated with final program details.
